Exploring Text Features

A instructional activity challenges scholars to identify text features of nonfiction text. Following an introductory discussion, the class walks through a textbook to review several text features such as the table of contents, headings, glossaries, and more. Pairs work collaboratively to complete a scavenger hunt that takes them through their textbook to locate text features. A T-chart provides a visually pleasant list of features and their purpose. Participants share their finished products with their peers.
